Some times you get this error while opening a file. I got this when opening a .jpg image file which came as attachment to email in MS Outlook.
To resolve this goto Explorer (File Explorer not Windows Internet explorer) - click Tools - click Folder Options - click on the tab File Types and select the appropriate file type from the Registered File Types list. Click on the Change button in details for *** extension. Select appropriate program for opening the file in question.
